Prep before painting

Even colour starts with the substrate. How to read the wall before the first coat.

Prep before painting

See the wall in daylight and side light

Ceiling light hides, windows reveal. Walk the wall with light from the side. Cracks, ridges and glossy patches show then, not in evening mood lighting.

Local filling or a full skim

Picture holes and a few joints rarely need a full skim. Large texture shifts, old paste and roller stipple might. We settle that before the quote.

Clean, dry, primed

Sanding dust and kitchen grease cause peeling. Primer where the wall sucks unevenly saves coats and evens the sheen.

The room before we arrive

Agree who moves furniture and what stays. Covering is part of the job; space to stand is part of the plan.
